This one has quite a personal story behind it, and as such I won't go into to much detail as to the meaning.

The subject likes to read murder mystery novels, so the overall composition of the painting is based on the cover drawing on the Chinese publication of the Agatha Christie story 'And then there were none'. In that there are 3 toy soldiers (1 laid down) on a dining table with a thunder storm taking place in the window behind.

The location in the painting is a town in Germany where this person spent some time and which led to some big changes in how she viewed the world and culture around her, and her place in it.

The monkeys are ceramic 'tea buddies' you can get in local souvenir markets, usually sold as a triplet of 'See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil'. Because of the backstory I chose only to include the relating to speech (as speech is active, hearing and seeing more passive). The idea at a broader level is that through things like social media in China, people today have more of a voice than perhaps ever before, but there remain many very traditional societal and cultural influences that have significant sway over what is acceptable to vocalise or put out into the world.
