This King Seiko dial was in an extraordinary state, resembling the surface of the moon or, as I later decided, a wall that had been damaged in some kind of conflict. The poppies in Britain are synonymous wIth the commemoration of fallen soldiers, so I painted poppies in front of the damaged wall, leaving enough of the surface to show through.

In doing so I 'saved' this King Seiko, a superb watch with a complete gold medallion on the back, so 'God Save the King' links that to the common wartime motto used by soldiers in the 20th century world wars.
